Doug s eyes were wild with anger when he yelled. He swung the gun
erratically in Zane s direction just as Promyse elbowed him in the
stomach. She dropped to the floor well out of range, and Zane took the
shot. His hands were sure and steady, and he didn t even miss a breath as
he pulled the trigger. The bullet struck Doug right between the eyes, and
surprise etched his face before he crumpled to the floor. The next few
seconds happened in a rush., Promyse scrambled toward him, and Zane
dropped the gun as he moved forward to meet her. She practically fell into
his arms, and he was there to catch her. Kissing her face that was bruised
and her cut lip, he held her close and prayed she was real and this was not
a dream.
I was so scared, Zane, that I would never see you again. She began
to cry big broken sobs that wracked her body. He kept telling me you
were dead, but I knew he was lying. I knew you would come for me.
Ssh, baby. It s ok. You know I would have walked to hell for you and
brought you home, Zane whispered. He kissed her fiercely. It s over
now, and I will never let anything happen to you again. I swear it.
She nodded and gave a watery laugh. I know.

They were almost at the entrance that led out of the warehouse when a
black panther walked in and stood before them. He stared back and forth
from Promyse to Zane.

quietly to his brother.
Zander shifted back to human form standing naked and proud in front
of all of them. And I would let you do it for the dishonor of taking your
